Connecting Stripe in the AMS

To connect Stripe as an online Payment Gateway you must first have an account set up with Stripe. Visit the Stripe Website to set up an account.

Once you have successfully created your Stripe account you can then create a new payment method in the AMS.

  1. In the AMS click Venue Settings on the left, then your Venue and click the Payment Methods tab:
  2. Click on the blue "Add Payment Method" button at the top of the page.
  3. Give the new method the name Card or Online Card to help differentiate it from any Manual Card Payment methods. This is also the name it will use for online bookings so avoiding using the word stripe as customers may not know what that refers to.
  4. Set the POS text to Card or Online card depending on your preference, remembering to differentiate it from any Manual Card Payment methods.
  5. Under type select "Gateway" and for Gateway type select "Stripe".
  6. Tick "Allow Refunds" as Stripe allows you to process refunds directly through the AMS. You will also need to tick "limit the refunds to the total payment method" amount too. This means you cannot refund back to the card more than was spent otherwise the refunds will fail.
  7. Click the Save button.
  8. In the same browser open a new tab and go to the Stripe website to log in to your Stripe dashboard i.e. https://dashboard.stripe.com/login
  9. Once successfully logged in to Stripe, go back to the tab with the AMS (ams.alphatiming.co.uk), click on your new Stripe payment method. You should now see a button that says Connect with Stripe:
  10. Click the button to open a pop-up window for Stripe. This will list the available accounts to link to Alpha Flow.
  11.  Select the appropriate account (the image shows example accounts so yours will be different) and click Connect
Once you see the confirmation message from Stripe you can close the pop up window and return to the AMS.

  12. Click on the new payment method and underneath the Gateway type you will see a green confirmation banner confirming that the accounts are now linked:

  13. Once these have been input make sure that you tick the following:

    • Allow Refunds
    • Limit refund amount to total payment amount for this payment method
    • Enable for Web Payment
    • and provide some text to show for the Web Payment button i.e. Pay by Card
  14. Click Save and you are then ready to test Stripe.
  15. Go to the Point of Sale, create a new bill and add a cheap product of at least £1 or more to the bill. Click the Payment button and select "Online Card" as the payment method. Complete the transaction to test that the gateway works.
  16. When successful head back to the new Stripe Payment Method in your venue settings then tick "Enable for Web Payment" to allow Stripe to be used with Online Bookings.
  17. Click Save and Stripe is all set up.
