Setting up a Chainway C4000-O Scanner

Modified on Tue, 28 May at 4:23 PM

The scanner model used with these instructions is the Chainway C4000-O. There are other versions of the C4000 scanner so make sure it’s the -O version. This scanners are no longer manufactured and we do not recommend buying pre-owned scanners.

Before installing the software on the scanner a few settings need to be changed:

First, tap the settings icon  .  If it’s not visible on the home screen, tap the menu icon (highlighted) and find the settings icon in the app list.

Once on the settings screen, scroll down until you see Date & Time.

Tap Date & Time to edit the settings:

  • Untick Automatic time zone (this only works when a SIM card is used)
  • Tap Select time zone and chose the correct timezone.
  • Tap Automatic date & time and select Use GPS-provided time.  This will ensure that the time on your scanner is always up to date, and that all scans will be logged with the correct time.  Tap OK when asked to confirm.

Next, go back to the main settings menu, scroll up to Display and tap it.  Change the sleep time so that you don’t have to keep unlocking the screen when scanning.  5 minutes is a good compromise between battery life and convenience.

Now go back to the setting menu and scroll up to Wi-Fi.  Tap on Wi-Fi.   Enable Wi-Fi and connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Next, go back to the settings menu and scroll down to Apps.  Tap on Apps and check that Keyboard Emulator is NOT installed.  If it is, tap it and select uninstall.  This app has been found to interfere with the scanner when using our app and is not required when using the Alpha scanning app.

Installing the App

To install the Alpha Scanning app, first make sure that the scanning laptop is connected to the same network as the scanner and that the scanning app is running on the laptop.   On the scanner, tap the browser app

Enter the following address:   http://[laptop_ip_address]:8088 (replace laptop_ip_address with the IP address of your laptop).  This will show the following screen:

Tap Downloads.  You will then see the following screen:

Tap Android App.  You will then see the downloads screen:

Once the download has finished, tap the downloaded file (Alpha.Scanning.App.apk).  You will then see the install screens.  Scroll to the bottom, then tap Install

Once the installation has finished, tap Done or Open.

Finally, add the app to the home screen, by tapping the menu button, holding your finger on the Alpha app and dragging it onto the home screen.
