Using the Live Timing Overlay

Modified on Thu, 11 Jan at 5:56 PM

Alpha Timing can provide a graphics overlay of the timing data for you to use on video broadcasts. This is controlled via a password protected web page that can be used with your broadcasting and live streaming software. In order for it to work with video editing software (where you can't log in to the browser) use the format https://user:password@live.alphatiming.co.uk/site/tv replacing user and password with the username and password we have provided to you and site with the name of your clubs page.

Controlling the Overlay

The overlay graphics are controlled via a web page, which is also password protected. This can be opened in a separate browser or even a separate pc from the one showing the overlay.  To access this page go to your club's unique live timing TV Control page and enter you username and password. Access to the overlay may not be included in your package so if you are unsure, please contact the Support Team.

From the control page you are able to show or hide different elements of the overlay. There are 4 sections:

  • The Results Column shown on the left most of the screen
  • The Overall Results Screen which fills the centre of the screen
  • The Map View which is in the middle right of the screen
  • The Lower Third which covers the width of the lower third of the screen

Toggle the slider from Show/Hide to show or hide the graphics on the screen. The information will only be shown if it is available from the Alpha Timing System.

Session Timer/Counter

When a session is started the session timer or lap counter, depending on how it is configured in the timing app, will display in the centre of the screen. If the status of the session changes, it will be updated accordingly.

The Results column
The Results column will show the session name at the top and can show the competitors most recent lap time or their best lap time for the session. The column will automatically scroll to ensure all competitor's are shown.

Overall Results Screen

The overall results screen has the session name at the top followed by "standings" if the session is still running or "results" if the session has finished, with the competitor's best lap time. The screen will automatically scroll to ensure all competitor's are shown.

On both the results column and the overall results overlays you can show the comparison between the 1st ranked competitor and the rest of the grid. These options are:

  • Behind Leader - this shows the time gap relative to the 1st ranked competitor.
  • Gap - this shows the time gap to the competitor ranked above this competitor.
  • Total Time - this shows the total time the competitor has been on track
  • Laps - the total number of laps accrued by this competitor.

Circuit Map

To show the map toggle the Show/Hide slider under Map View. This will display the track map and a disc representing each competitor. Competitors ranked in 1st will be coloured gold, 2nd in silver and 3rd in bronze.

It is also possible to highlight specific competitors by selecting their race numbers from the competitors list. This will colour the disc blue on the map overlay.

Note: The track map will only show if the live timing track map code is configured in the Timing App's Track settings. To find out how to add this in the Timing app and a list of available track maps see our Tracks Support Article

Lower Third

For the Lower Third overlay there are two options. The Competitor scroll which will show the gap relative to the leader or "gap between" which will show gaps between each competitor.

Notifications

Any warnings or penalties issued in the timing will also be displayed on the overlay and will appear on the right between where the track map and lower third overlays.
