Scanner Connection Issues

Modified on Tue, 21 Mar 2023 at 10:27 AM

A Private Local wireless network is required so that the scanners can communicate with the laptop.

Internet access is not essential when using the scanners – it is required to set up the meeting on the laptop and to upload the tyre data to the on-line database at the end of the event, but this can be done from home before leaving for the circuit, and once home at the end of the event.

The Scanning Laptop must not be running any third party virus protection or firewall applications as these can interfere with the scanner's connection to the laptop. Windows Defender software is more than adequate protection.

There are a number of options for providing a local WiFi network, ranging from a cheap wireless router - these can be operated stand-alone without an internet connection and start at around £20, to a wireless 4g device or a 4g WiFi router.  Please contact the Support Team if you need advice on which device.

Most mobile phones can create a WiFi hotspot that is always private so depending on your devices, this can be used as a back-up or to help diagnose any network issues.

When creating your WiFi network, make sure it is a private network and not a public network. You will see a warning banner on the Scanning Application if the network type is not correct. Click the Fix button to go to your Network Settings and change the WiFi's network type to Private.

If you are still having issues try creating a WiFi hotspot with a mobile phone. Hotspot networks are always private.

If you are still having trouble try disabling your Firewall in your Window's Security Settings. Window's Firewall should be ample security as other third party firewalls can interfere with network.
