Driver is unable to use their number

Modified on Thu, 17 Oct at 10:24 AM

There are several reasons why a competitor may be unable to select their desired race number, but it will usually be because another competitor has already selected that number for their own and depending on the context, one or more number validation rules are preventing a conflict.

Race number validation policies exist on Memberships, Championships and Events themselves, so check:

  • an existing member has not already selected that number for that class
  • an existing driver has not already entered that championship with that number
  • the number is within the range that the championship or event allows i.e. is it set to 11-200 as numbers 1-10 are seeded?
  • there is already somebody in that event with that number. Depending on the event settings, this could be across multiple classes i.e. in multiclass endurance events.
  • is the event settings reserving members numbers (this will still block the use of the number, even if the member is not attending)

The different number validation policies are described below.

Membership validation rules

When creating a membership you can set whether this reserves race numbers for a particular class. You can also set which season(s) the number reservation applies to. This will reserve their number regardless of whether they make any entries within the selected seasons.

Championship validation rules

For championships, you have the option to set the rules for a registered driver's race number:

  • a specified range i.e. only register with the numbers from 201-299 or if the top 10 numbers are seeded, you may want to set the minimum to 11 to prevent other drivers using seeded numbers.

You can also choose a validation policy from the dropdown:

  • None - this will allow duplicate numbers
  • Reserve numbers by membership - if you have a number reservation during membership this will restrict numbers according to the person's membership
  • Unique for Championship - this will ensure all registrations have a unique race number. Even if the person entering is only attending one round or a test day, the number will not be available at any other events in this championship.

Event validation rules

Each event can have its own Race Number validation policy. This is used to control how race numbers should be reserved and / or validated for an event. Head to an event, Click the Edit button and select Event Settings from the dropdown. These policies are:

  • None - anyone can have any numbers
  • Championship race numbers only - this is only shown for clubs where the competitor must enter a championship registration first e.g. British Kart Champs / Super One. If selected then a competitors race number for an event will be automatically set to the race number on their championship registration
  • Unique per class - validates the race number is unique to that class in that event only (it doesn't check to see if the race number is reserved at the championship level). This is the setting for all normal kart clubs (i.e. ones which don't charge a championship registration fee)
  • Unique across all classes - this ensures that the race number is unique across all classes in that event. This will be the setting for most sprints, hill climbs and multi class single race weekends.

Ticking Reserve race numbers for members will block the use of a member's number, even if the member has not made an entry.
