Session Settings

Modified on Wed, 10 Jul at 11:45 AM

Each session can have its own unique settings. These can be created automatically for you with the Grid Generator or by a custom built Timing Format template by the Alpha Support Team.

You will be shown the session configuration panel when create a new session manually or to edit the settings of an existing session, click on the Tasks button at the top of the screen and then Edit Session.

Session Name, Type, Duration and start time

You can name your session and select the type of session from the following options:

  • Practice
  • Timed Qualifying
  • Race
  • Sprint Heat
  • Combined Qualifying
  • Pre Final
  • Final
  • Time Trail
  • Quarter Final
  • Semi Final

You can then set the duration of your session from the following options:

  • 5 m = 5 minutes
  • 1 h = 1 hour
  • 5 L = 5 Laps
  • 5 m + 1L = 5 minutes plus one lap (plus any other combination of time plus laps).

You can also set the specific start time of this session. If your event spans multiple days, you can set which day the session is on too. Whether this time is shown on the results website can be configured on the Event Details page (see Publish scheduled start times).

Points

You can select which Points scheme to use for this session if applicable. If this event is part of a championship you'll also be able to choose the championship points to apply too. See the Points Scheme article to learn more about creating a points scheme.

If the event is part of a championship you will also be able to set if any Championship points should be scored in this session. If you set championship points you will also need to set which round number they apply to.

Below the point(s) scheme(s) are the eligible classes for this session. You can select multiple classes for a session and specify whether the results should be split by class.

Grid Options

The timing can provide a multitude of different grid options to select from to order you competitors in the sessions accordingly. Using the grid options means you don't always need to create a merge to be able to generate a grid for a session. An intermediate classification (how the grid was calculated) will be shown on the session in question.

Depending on the session type the following options are available:

  • No grid - the system will not automatically order the competitors
  • Results from ... - the system will order the competitors from the results of the selected session. There are then further options on whether to include all competitors or only a specific number, to reverse the order, to apply a repechage with another session and spilt the grid by class or subclass.
  • Points from Heats - the system will use the total number of points issued in the heats to order the competitors. This can be ordered as high-low with the highest points on pole or low-high with the lowest points on pole. You can also specify which heats to include and decide a tie break. Again there are further options on whether to include all competitors or only a specific number, to reverse the order, to apply a repechage with another session and spilt the grid by class or subclass.
  • Best Laptime - with this option the system will order the competitors based on their best laptime in the selected session(s).
  • Second Best Laptime - with this option the system will order the competitors based on their second best laptime in the selected session(s).
  • Average Laptime - with this option the system will order the competitors based on their average laptime, fastest to slowest in the selected sessions.
  • Points - this option will calculate the grid order based on the total number of points issued in any points scoring session.
  • Merge Result - if you have used a merge in your event, the system can create the grid based on the result of a merge

Below the Grid options are the automated print settings for the session. Here you can select the number of copies of each document and select whether you would like them to print immediately on results being available.

There are also some advanced options in the timing that can be used on the direction of the Support Team.
