Merges in the Timing can be used to create results from two or more sessions. Merge results can also be used to allocate Championship points to the combined results of multiple sessions.
Note: It is not always necessary to use a merge to create a grid from two sessions as the gird options allow the results from multiple session. See Grid Options for more information.
Merges can use the following options to rank drivers:
- Best Laptime, second best laptime and third best laptime
- Race (laps and total time)
- Heat points - low to high or high to low
- Finishing position
- Championship points - low to high or high to low
You can also further choose whether to count:
- best result
- the sum of all of the results
- average result
- last result
With merges, you can also apply up to 3 tie breaks. You can also separately choose whether the tiebreak applies to all of their scores, counted scores or dropped scores (i.e. not used in the merge).
The merge can then be displayed as either a Full breakdown (all counted scores) or a Compact version. This is also shown on the results website and any TV Playlists in the same way.
Just like other sessions, heat points and championship points can be applied to the final ranking of the merge. A merge is not automatically counted in a championship, but you can apply a "Round Type Code" to the merge, so that the Championship points issued in this merge, replace the equivalent session for this round in the table. The options are:
H for a heat
PF for a Prefinal
F for a Final
NOTE: Make sure that you remove any Championship points from the sessions you are merging i.e. if this is replacing the points that would normally be issued in the Finals e.g. a A & B Final, make sure the A Final and B Final sessions have no points scheme selected, and that the merge for the finals has the Championship points scheme and the Round Type Code set to F
Set the groups and sessions to include in this merge to finish the setup, and click Save at the top of the screen. Once the selected sessions have had their sessions result issued (including any penalties) the Merge will say "Result Available" in the session list. You can then click Generate Result from the top of the merge. If any of the sessions results for the merge are amended and new results issue, you can click the Regenerate Result button to calculate a new ranking. Once you are happy with the ranking of the merge, click Issue Results like you would on any other session.
Advanced options
It is possible to use the ranking of a merge to add a competitor to a particular group. It is possible to assign up to 10 groups (named A to J). Competitors will be assigned groups consecutively i.e. ranked 1st in Group A, 2nd in B, 3rd in C etc then back to A.
You can also set the Default grid calculation option to use:
- No default will use the sessions option, not the merge
- Overall Best will set the grid in the order of the merge’s ranking
- Best in session - fastest session will take the driver with the best laptime overall and place them on pole. The fastest driver in the next fastest session will be placed in grid 2, the second fastest driver in the faster session will be grid 3, the second fastest driver in the slower session ill be 4th and so on.
- Best in session - fastest in row will take the fastest drivers from each session, then the fastest of these will start on pole, the slower will be 2nd, then the fastest driver from 2nd place in each session will be 3rd, and the slower 2nd place driver 4th and so on
