Generating Grids from the results of other sessions

Modified on Wed, 17 Jul at 10:31 AM

The timing can provide a multitude of different grid options to select from to order you competitors in the sessions accordingly.

All sessions whose grids are calculated from the results of other sessions (e.g. a final, or a heat whose grid is determined by one or more qualifying sessions) are configured with the relevant rules of how the grid should be generated.  This means that there is generally not a need to create intermediate classifications.  Once all dependant sessions have been issued, an orange  Generate Grids for xxx  button is shown.

Clicking this button will bring up a screen showing the intermediate/grid classifications allowing you to check and confirm the grid, which will then be automatically generated.

The only time an intermediate merge result is required is where qualifying groups are required (A Vs B, c Vs D etc.)  This is explained in the merge section.

The grid parameters can be changed, for example if running an A and B final the number of drivers in the A and the number to promote to the B can be changed.

If the grid is generated from the result from qualifying sessions, the % time difference from the fastest is show, and if more than one qualifying session has been run a warning is shown if there is more than 101% difference between the best laptime in both sessions.  In this case a further option is shown to allow the way the grid is calculated to be changed

  • Overall best time simply takes the best time for each driver, and uses that order for the grid
  • Best in session (fastest session first) will take the driver with the best laptime overall and place them on pole.  The fastest driver in the next fastest session will be placed in grid 2, the second fastest driver in the faster session will be grid 3, the second fastest driver in the slower session ill be 4th and so on.
  • Best in session (row by row fastest) will take the fastest drivers from each session, then the fastest of these will start on pole, the slower will be 2nd, then the fastest driver from 2nd place in each session will be 3rd, and the slower 2nd place driver 4th and so on.

Intermediate Classifications

A full breakdown of the results used to calculate the result can be seen by clicking on the session (e.g. a final) and selecting the grid view.

This can also be printed by clicking on the print button and selecting Grid Calculation.
