Championships

In the system, a Championship is defined as a Class for a particular Season. A season has a specific start date and end date and will consist of a list of Championships; i.e. classes that are taking part in that Season. In order to setup a Championship you will need to have created a season already. You will also need to have setup one or more Classes

These classes run within a season are considered "championships", which will list every driver who has entered into an event that is part of the championship. These don't necessarily need to be championship scoring events as they can also include one-off events and test days.

Click the "+ New Championship" button to create a new championship or click on the name of an existing championship to edit it. You can also copy the Championships from a previous season from the tools menu. See the bottom of this page on how to do that.

Select the season and class from the dropdowns and then give the championship a name. If you want to limit the amount of registrations for a championship you can set this number here. Then set whether the championship is for:

  • Individuals - who compete on their own
  • Individual with optional drivers - who compete on their own but can be joined by others i.e. a Co-driver.
  • Team - a group of drivers who race for one entry i.e. endurance events

You can then set which form the competitor should use from your form builder to complete the championship registration.

Race Numbers

You then have the option to set the rules for this classes race numbers, if required. For example:

  • if a class can only register with the numbers from 201-299 you would set the race number minimum to 201 and the maximum to 299.
  • If the top 10 numbers are seeded, you may want to set the minimum to 11 to prevent other drivers using seeded numbers. This will require you to manually register the top 10 into the championship however.
  • If you want to restrict the numbers from three figure numbers you should set the race number minimum to 1 and the maximum to 99

You can then choose a validation policy from the dropdown:

  • None - this will allow duplicate numbers
  • Reserve numbers by membership - if you have a number reservation during membership this will restrict numbers according to the person's membership
  • Unique for Championship - this will ensure all registrations have a unique race number. Even if the person entering is only attending one round, the number will not be available at any other events in this championship.

When a driver register for a club for the first time they are asked their preferred race number. If you set "Set race number automatically to driver's preferred race number?" slider to Yes this will mean that, when a championship entry is created for the driver, the race number will be set to their preferred race number automatically, (unless the race number is already taken by someone else in that class).

If you allow drivers to register for more than one class you can set a different price for subsequent registrations. This is configured in your account's Online Settings.

Charging for Registration (and Guest Registrations)

When drivers register for a class, which will be done automatically when they purchase membership, enter an event or simply complete the registration form in their competitor profile, you can choose whether to apply a fee to this.

If you set the "Registration Fee Required" slider to Yes you be asked to provide the fee amount and whether you whish to apply the charge to reserve entries once the registration limit has been met.

If you charge a registration fee, there is also an option to allow guest entries that will waive the registration fee. You can add optional labels to guest entries and restrict the number of race and practice events that a guest can attend before requiring the registration fee.

Online Settings

You can then adjust the Online settings for the championship. This configures how the championship looks online and controls whether it can be seen or is available to purchase.

Miscellaneous Settings

You can set a minimum weight threshold for a class which can automatically assign competitors the correct class depending on the weight they input.

If required you can mark any charges relating to championship entries with their own Account Code and set whether VAT needs to be applied.

When creating a manual championship entry you can specify whether a new invoice is created by default. If you charge for championship registration then we recommend you set this to yes.

You also have the ability to split the class in to Sub Classes. Sub classes still remain within the main class and in the Alpha Timing System will often be consider them together as a class rather than individuals (there are some instances where they can be separated). If you wish to use Sub Classes and you use the Alpha Timing system please discuss this with the Support Team first.

Copying Championships

On the championships screen make sure the drop down top left is set to the season you want to copy the championships too i.e. 2023. Click the Tools button and then Copy Championships.

On the next screen, you can then select the classes you used last season (or change the dropdown on the right to select another season). Tick the class(es) you want to copy to the new season and then click the blue Copy Championships button at the bottom.
